Loretta F. McMahon – Cumberland

Loretta F. McMahon, 79, of Cumberland, passed away unexpectedly Monday, July 23, 2018.

She was the wife of the late Eugene J. McMahon. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late George and Loretta Ganley.

She is survived by her children, Timothy McMahon, Mary-Ellen McMahon, David McMahon and Beth Guarneri. She also leaves eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was the sister of Barbara Fletcher.

Loretta graduated from Salve Regina College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She went on to teach at several Rhode Island schools in the Pawtucket and Cumberland area.

Loretta will be fondly remembered as the owner of the Daze End Herb Farm in Cumberland. Daze End was not only well known for the “best damn beans in town” but also for herb jelly, pesto and homemade wreaths all designed by Loretta herself.

As president of the Cumberland Garden Club, Loretta coordinated several fundraisers supporting both homeless women’s shelters and teachers in the local schools. Additionally, Loretta was instrumental in the Cumberland Beautification program which designed and maintained the town median strips on Diamond Hill Road. A memorial garden remains dedicated in her name at the Cumberland Arnold Mills Community Center.

Loretta had several interests and hobbies including astrology, collecting ikebana and rare stones, painting, sewing and cooking.

Visiting hours are Saturday, Aug. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a service at 1 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
