Mutter ‘opens the hood,’ offers repair strategy

CUMBERLAND – Mayoral candidate Jeff Mutter works at Mutter Motors, opened by his father in 1967. With hard work and dedicated service, he said he mastered the ability to troubleshoot.

“The first thing you have to do is open the hood to figure out what’s wrong,” Mutter said.

Applying the same approach to Cumberland, Mutter says he saw warnings about residential growth, overspending of the rainy day fund and subpar facilities for youth and seniors. Mutter outlined his repair strategy.

“We have to implement smart growth management policies with an eye on safer streets, better services, and conservative budgeting practices,” he said. “We need to revisit impact fees and make them relevant to today. A long-term funding plan for the school district is needed rather than the annual drama.”

He continued, “We have to solve the structural problems in our budget, so we don’t mortgage our future. Only then can we make the necessary improvements.”

Mutter said he’ll change the focus “from why we can’t do things to how we can get them done.

”On Sept 12, let’s get to the work of fixing our problems,” he said. “I will bring positive energy and a collaborative approach to solving our challenges. I humbly ask for your vote.”
