Archambault will face Republican Tocco in November election

SMITHFIELD – Incumbent Sen. Stephen Archambault won the Democratic primary Wednesday and will seek to retain his District 22 Senate seat in the general election.

According to the Rhode Island Board of Elections, newcomer Melanie Dupont won 38 percent of the vote in the district, with 1,128 votes, but Archambault easily came out on top by winning 62 percent, or 1,876 votes.

Voters from Smithfield, Johnston and North Providence voted for their representative in the Senate District 22 race. In Smithfield, 1,312 residents voted for Archambault, and 781 for DuPont. A total of 538 voters from North Providence voted for Archambault, with 293 voting for DuPont. And in the Johnston part of the district, Archambault beat Dupont 26-12.
