BRT presents a night of Gypsy music with The Bohemian Quartet Saturday

The Bohemian Quartet will perform Romani and Gypsy music at the Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m.

CUMBERLAND – Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., will present a night of Romani and Gypsy music featuring The Bohemian Quartet on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 8 p.m.

The Bohemian Quartet was formed in 2005. Violinist Stan Renard, a composer and player, assembled the group with the idea of preserving the tradition and indulging in the playing of classic gypsy music. Renard recruited like-minded friends: Christine Harrington on cello, Nancy Richardson on viola, and Dave Zinno on upright bass. Together, they’ve made a commitment to the genre, and aspired to performing it with both reverence and adventure, according to event organizers.

The name “Bohemian Quartet” was borrowed from the original Bohemian Quartet (also known as the Czech Quartet after 1918), a string quartet of international repute that was founded in 1891 and disbanded in 1934. Both groups share a passion for the deep-rooted authenticity of the Romany tradition. The band released a new CD, “For You,” last year at Blackstone River Theatre.

Admission is $16 in advance, and $18 on the day of the show. For reservations or information, call 401- 725-9272.
