Phyllis B. Mills – Cumberland

Phyllis B. Mills (Belmore), 75, of Lanexa, Virginia, went to be with her Lord on October 4, 2018, at the Morningside Assisted Living Facility in Williamsburg, Va., after a long battle with dementia.

Phyllis was a native of Cumberland Rhode Island for 57 years prior to moving to Virginia with her husband of 53 years, Richard Joseph Mills. Phyllis was born as Phyllis Bernadette Belmore and grew up in the Main Street village in Cumberland, Rhode Island. She is the loving daughter of the late Josephine Belmore (Kozatek) and Phillip Belmore. She is survived by her husband, Richard, who now lives in Duck Key, Fla. She also leaves her two sons, Dean Mills of Blackstone, Mass., his wife, Karen, and her grandson, Daniel; her youngest son Richard Mills of Orange, Calif., his wife, Demi, and her two grandsons Zachary and Brayden. Additionally, she leaves her sister Sandra Mayer of Smithfield, R.I.

Phyllis received her bachelors degree from Bryant College and her masters from Providence College. After college she was a Cumberland High School teacher for several years, then worked at The Cumberland Teachers Credit Union. Phyllis finished her career as an executive at Conway Bus where she retired in 1999.

Phyllis was a devoted catholic and was for many years an active part of St. John Vianney Church in Cumberland where she volunteered. Phyllis was a woman that could light up a room and was a true example of being selfless. She was a loving wife, mother, and an amazing role model. She brought families and friends together and would welcome anyone that needed support and love.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, November 10, at 10 a.m., in Saint John Vianney Church, 3609 Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will be private.
