Helen C. Nelson – Cumberland

Helen C. Nelson, 100, of Cumberland passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019, at The Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. She was the beloved wife of Edward C. Nelson.

Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Kozial) Sobota. She was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

She was employed for many years by L.G. Balfour in Attleboro, Mass. Most recently she was a receptionist at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital.

Helen was a communicant of the St. John Vianney Church. She enjoyed walking at the Cumberland Monastery, reading, and working in the yard, especially tending to her flowers.

She leaves her children, Susan Souza and her husband, Raul, of Cumberland, Nancy Wass of Burrillville, Catherine Goltz and her husband, Albert, of Bethesda, Md., and Robert Nelson and his wife, Barbara, of Burrillville; her grandchildren, Sara Goltz, Daniel Goltz, Joshua Nelson, Jason Nelson, Kelly Westhauver and Heather Dubois; her eight great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Jennifer L. Souza and Michael P. Souza.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Helen's Life Celebration to be held Friday, February 1, 2019, with visiting hours from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m., in the St. John Vianney Church. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery.
