Lincoln’s Scahill excels at GNAC Championships for Colby-Sawyer swim team

BOSTON, Mass. – Garrett Scahill, a 2017 graduate of Lincoln High and a sophomore on the Colby-Sawyer College men’s swim team, recently grabbed three top-four places with season-best times at the GNAC (Great Northeast Athletic Conference) Championships that were held last weekend at Simmons University.

Scahill, who helped the Lions claim the Division II dual-meet title and Division III championship his senior season, grabbed second place in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:06.07, third in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.24 seconds, and fourth in the 50-yard backstroke in 27.92 seconds.

He also placed eighth in the preliminaries of the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 5:32.07, but chose to not swim in the finals to save his energy for the 200-yard backstroke.

Scahill will next compete at the NEISDA (New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association) Championships from Feb. 21-24 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s pool in Cambridge, Mass. At last year’s NEISDA Championships, Scahill was named to the All-New England Team and All-Sportsmanship Team.
