R.I. Spirits opening this weekend

PAWTUCKET – The gin and vodka are in. Rhode Island Spirits will open its doors in a preview release of its Rhodium brand white spirits on Saturday and Sunday, March 9-10, from 12:30 to 7 p.m.

The manufacturing site and tasting room are located at 59 Blackstone Ave., situated in downtown Pawtucket on the Blackstone River in the historic Blackstone Pawtucket mill behind Tolman High School. Owners and distillers Kara Larson and Cathy Plourde are preparing for a celebratory weekend.

“We’re thrilled to be keeping our opening date as planned,” said Larson.

The couple plan to open with their flagship white spirits in cocktails, tastings and bottles. Other spirits and liqueurs are in line for production and release over the next few weeks.

“We had hoped to put both the Pink Gin and the Rhode Island Red Vodka in bottles by now, but the government shutdown backlog slowed us down a bit,” said Plourde. “And a few of the more unusual foraged ingredients are taking a little longer for clearance.”

Visitors can expect this soft opening to be a good indication of things to come when R.I. Spirits can be in full production with expanded hours.
