O’Hearn earns top honors in scholastic art competition

EAST PROVIDENCE – St. Mary Academy – Bay View student Emily O’Hearn, a freshman from Pawtucket, was one of five students from across the state to be selected as an American Visions nominee for her sculpture piece.

The award was presented at a ceremony on Feb. 3 at Salve Regina University in Newport.

The sculpture was created under the direction of Bay View Visual Arts teacher Jean Petisce-Lynch, who in the last four years has had two students go on to win a national award. American Visions nominees are considered the “Best in Show” in the state, and they receive Gold Keys and are sent to the National Scholastic Art Competition in New York to compete with other American Visions nominees in the country.
