LINCOLN – Lincoln High School student Emma Naughton recently earned a $500 cash scholarship for college from the Wickford Art Association and Rhode Island Art Educators Association.

Naughton was one of four Rhode Island public school senior art students to earn a scholarship during the annual program, held on March 1 at the Wickford Art Association in North Kingstown. Held in accordance with Youth Art Month, the Wickford Art Association presented awards to the following winners:

• First place $1,500: Arianna Deal from Cranston High School West

• Second place $1,000: Chase Goulet from North Kingstown High School

• Third place $500: Laura Heffernan from Portsmouth High School

Naughton earned the R.I. Art Education Association’s President’s Award. Her art educator at LHS is Susan Kolenda.

All four winners received their own public art exhibit at the Wickford Art Association, a one-year WAA membership and an invitation to exhibit at the 57th Wickford Art Festival on July 13 and 14.

Each Rhode Island public high school chooses one senior art student for award consideration and the competition uses National Scholastic Standards overseen by the Rhode Island Art Educators Association.

Wickford Art Association hours are Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 to 3 p.m., and Sunday noon to 3 p.m. For more information, call 401-294-6840 or visit www.wickfordart.org .
