Lincoln’s Andrews is LEC Rookie of Week for RIC baseball team

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island College freshman infielder Stephen Andrews, who graduated from Lincoln High last spring after an exceptional career with the Lions’ baseball team, was recognized by the Little East Conference on Monday morning as the conference’s Rookie of the Week.

Making his collegiate debut as a pinch-hitter in last Saturday’s season opener against Westfield State University in Auburndale, Fla., Andrews belted a walk-off, three-run homer to lead the Anchormen past Westfield State, 4-2. He also played the next day in a 6-2 win over Marymount (Va.) and was 1-for-2 with a double, a run batted in, and a walk.

The Anchormen entered Monday’s action with a 3-0 record, thanks to their victory over Westfield State and a doubleheader sweep of Marymount that saw RIC win the nightcap by a 14-0 score.

Andrews was also a member of the Upper Deck Post 14 Senior Division baseball team that won the state title last summer.
