PHS’s Cook, Stone, Ferreira will receive Gridiron Club honors

PROVIDENCE – The Ponaganset High football team will receive multiple honors when the Providence Gridiron Club holds its 26th annual Awards Night on Wednesday, April 3, at 6 p.m. at the Quonset ‘O’ Club on 200 Lt. Brown Road in North Kingstown.

The Chieftains enjoyed its best season since 2009 by winning six of their seven Division IV games and reaching the D-IV semifinals. Thanks to their exceptional season, first-year head coach Jim Cook will receive the Division IV Coach of the Year honor; senior running back Jeremy Stone will take home the division’s Back of the Year, and senior tackle Matthew Ferreira will be the recipient of the Lineman of the Year.

The club will present awards to the top players and coaches from all six RIIL high school divisions, as well as the Lou Cimini Officiating Award, MVP awards from all four R.I. football-playing colleges, and the Lawrence P. Gallogly Humanitarian Award.
