Goff dives in for ‘Little Mermaid Jr.’ production

Goff Middle School students dive into their performance of “The Little Mermaid Jr.,” a production they had been working on for about four months. The play was presented April 3 and April 4.

PAWTUCKET – Lyman B. Goff Middle School students took the audience “under the sea” during their student-run production of “The Little Mermaid Jr.” on April 3 and April 4.

About 60 students involved in the production for the past four months made the show come alive, school officials said, devoting countless hours to creating props, developing costumes, running technical equipment and singing their hearts out – and also fiercely cheering each other on throughout the whole process.

“They have blossomed, they have grown as individuals,” Principal Lisa Benedetti-Ramzi said of the students, many of whom have been involved in productions for three years, since they were in grade 6.

Drama club productions at Goff, Technical Director Chris Colson said, “Give kids a sense of what they can do … That’s the beauty of it.”

Through that, he said, “They really surprise themselves.”
