Pawtucket CAP Unit named Squadron of Merit

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Composite Squadron, Rhode Island Wing, Civil Air Patrol, was named a 2019 Squadron of Merit at a ceremony on April 3.

The Squadron of Merit award is awarded annually to the top Civil Air Patrol squadron in each state. Squadron commander Capt. Robert Gianopoulos accepted the award from Rhode Island Wing Commander Col. William Stranahan. Stranahan said of the Pawtucket squadron: “Under the Command of Capt. Robert Gianopoulos, the squadron has participated in all three of Civil Air Patrol’s missions: Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services. In addition, they have supported many events throughout the Wing and have really advanced the Civil Air Patrol program for all of their members. I am proud to have them on our team.”

In Rhode Island, the Civil Air Patrol currently maintains its headquarters at the R.I.
