Great job raising Pennies for Patients, Lonsdale Elementary

I would be remiss if I didn’t take the time to thank Principal Melissa Goho, all staff, teachers, students, Lonsdale LPT, and parents for helping our school raise a grand total of $4,729.19 for the Pennies for Patients fundraiser. This cause is to help cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and melanoma. Our students’ efforts vastly improved the quality of life for cancer patients and their families. They put a smile on the faces of thousands of people and should be proud. Students also raised $380 for the opportunity to throw pies at Principal Goho and Nurse Newbury. Priceless!

Additionally, I had the honor of attending a kickoff celebration at Lonsdale Elementary. Our school became the first elementary school in Lincoln to partner with Special Olympics R.I. as part of the Unified Champion Schools program. The UCS program uses strategies to promote a positive and inclusive environment for all students. The ultimate goal of the program is to encourage students to help and respect others with disabilities. From Monday, March 25, to Friday, March 29, our school held activities in physical education classes to show students how it feels to face ordinary tasks.

Thank you to Lonsdale’s Positive Behavior Intervention Support team and UCS, who created and planned activities. Thank you to Lincoln Middle School physical education teacher Mike Bedrossian and his students on LMS’s Unified Basketball Team who visited and talked to our students about their experiences.

I am extremely proud to be part of such a wonderful elementary school and am looking forward to continuing to support their efforts in making positive impacts in the lives of others. Our community is fortunate and appreciative.
