Autiello proposes badminton at Camp Meehan

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Add badminton to the list of possible uses at Camp Meehan/Notte Park.

Town Council President Dino Autiello said he heard from some constituents who are into the sport that they would like to see the town develop such a facility.

He requested and the council approved a letter to Mayor Charles Lombardi asking him to find space for such a court at the revamped Camp Meehan space, purchased by the town to add onto the existing Notte Park in 2012.

If not at Camp Meehan, said Autiello, he’d like the mayor to look into creating such a facility elsewhere in the town.

Back in February, Autiello made a similar request for a CrossFit-style gym at the park.

Lombardi said this week that he hasn’t made any progress on the idea of the CrossFit training equipment.

He said he will take a similar cautious approach with the request for badminton, evaluating the park to see if there’s a spot to put it.

“If we can find a spot for it, we’ll put it in that spot,” he said.

There are other projects at Camp Meehan taking higher priority currently, said Lombardi.

Over the next couple of weeks, new grass will be installed at the park’s new outdoor amphitheater, and several trees are also in the process of coming down.
