Ex-CHS volleyball star Elkas is CCRI Scholar-Athlete

WARWICK – Cumberland’s Samantha Elkas, who will graduate from the Community College of Rhode Island this spring after enjoying a superb two-year stint with the Knights’ women’s volleyball team, is among 30 student-athletes who were recently selected as 2019 CCRI Scholar-Athlete award winners.

Scholar-Athletes are chosen based on their grade point average (GPA), athletic performance, and ability to show exemplary character while possessing the leadership qualities necessary to succeed both on and off the playing field.

A co-captain for the Knights, Elkas played in every match this past season and was second on the team in scoring with 149 points. She also totaled 96 kills and 32 digs.
Elkas, who graduated from Cumberland High in 2017, was a middle hitter for the CHS girls’ volleyball team who helped lead the Clippers to the Division I-North regular-season title in 2016.
