Lincoln to host start of endurance relay race from R.I. to Connecticut

New RiMaConn Relay hits Blackstone Valley State Park on Aug. 24

GLASTONBURY, Conn. – The non-profit Hartford Marathon Foundation, which produces over 30 race events throughout southern New England, has created a team relay race concept that will span 95 miles and three states and start in Lincoln’s Blackstone Valley State Park.

RiMaConn Relay is a day-long endurance running event that is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 24, and welcomes three-member and six-member teams to experience a scenic course that traverses 21 towns.

The race will begin at the state park’s Pratt Dam on Front Street and continue through Cumberland and Woonsocket.

The course will then weave into Massachusetts, hitting Blackstone, Millville, and Douglas, and then make its way through Connecticut and end at Hartford’s Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.

Eighty-five percent of the course will utilize a network of scenic multi-use trails, including the Blackstone River Bikeway, Southern New England Trunkline Trail, Air Line Trail, Hop River Trail, and Charter Oak Greenway.

Lincoln will host volunteers and cheerleaders from across the area, as race participants get ready to start their epic adventure.

A staggered early morning race start will accommodate the varying paces of teams, as well as account for foot traffic on the trails and safe vehicle travel for teams and communities to access the 18 exchange points.
