Invenergy plant wins DEM draft permit

BURRILLVILLE – The proposed Clear River Energy Center cleared an important regulatory hurdle last Thursday when it secured a draft air permit from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management. The permit marks the RIDEM’s determination that the proposed plant will comply with state and federal air pollution regulations.

Invenergy still needs to secure approval from the Energy Facility Siting Board before it can begin construction on the controversial 1,000-megawatt facility off Wallum Lake Road. A decision on the proposal is expected in mid-summer after a final round of hearing wrapped up in April.
