Mancieri will not seek open council seat

WOONSOCKET – Former City Councilor Garrett Mancieri announced Tuesday he does not intend to seek the council seat vacated by former Councilor Julia Brown during an upcoming election. There had been widespread speculation that Mancieri intended to run after two other individuals announced their candidacy last month.

“I will announce to all my supporters that I will seek political office again, but unfortunately that will not be this year,” he said. “I hope that you understand that while I do have incredible pride, love, and respect for all the great people of this community, that I feel I need more time to be dedicated to represent the constituents of our city.”

Mancieri said he intends to run for office in the “very near future.”

Former City Council President Roger Jalette Sr. and city resident Alex Kithes have both announced their intention to run for the seat. A special election for the vacant seat will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The deadline to declare candidacy is 4 p.m. on May 24.
