Lincoln Housing earns NAHRO award

LINCOLN – The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials honored Lincoln Housing Authority with four 2019 Awards of Merit.

The four winning projects were all within the Resident and Client Services Category. The goal of these four projects is to increase resident accessibility, increase safety, and provide educational and learning opportunities to enhance the lives of residents. The four winning projects recognized were:

• A Matter of Balance: an eight-week balance class designed to strengthen and improve resident independence and increase fall-prevention awareness;

• Chair Lifts for Increased Accessibility: chairlifts were installed in the two residential buildings to increase resident and visitor accessibility as well as decrease the need for transfers and the need to seek alternative housing options;

• Lending Literacy: A Little Free Library was installed at a family housing community, Woodland Terrace, with the goal of increasing access to free reading materials for children and adults;

• And Safe Hearts, Save Lives: Automated external defibrillators were installed in three communal areas at both Lincoln and Manville Manors, designed to lessen emergency response times and increase resident safety.
