DOH recommends reopening Scarborough Beach North

NARRAGANSETT – The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) recommends reopening Scarborough Beach North for swimming because bacteria counts have returned to acceptable levels. Scarborough Beach South remains closed for swimming.

In a Wednesday news release announcing the closure due to high bacteria counts, officials from the RIDOH and Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said they were working to determine the source of high bacteria levels.

The RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality regularly to ensure safe bathing throughout the summer season. The status of a beach may change as new results become available. The most up-to-date beach information is available at www.health.ri.gov or through a recorded message on RIDOH's beaches telephone line at 401-222-2751.
