Communities unite to fight against cancer

On Saturday, June 15, many communities came together to fundraise against cancer at the Relay For Life of Northern Rhode Island. The event took place at the Smithfield High School track. It was an amazing day/evening with teams of Relayers raising over $60,000 on behalf of the American Cancer Society and for those who are fighting, or have fought, against cancer.

There are numerous businesses who sponsor this event, and we would like to thank them for their gracious monetary support. We would also like to thank all the local restaurants and businesses who donate gift cards/items for our raffle table and bingo game and also who provide a special dinner for cancer survivors and their caregivers. With this outpouring of community support, our Relay event continues to be a successful and uplifting fundraiser!

A special thank you to our Master of Ceremonies Ralph Boudreau for helping the day go smoothly. Jillian Reeve, a recent graduate of Lincoln Middle School, opened up the day with a beautiful rendition of the national anthem. Roland Coutu kept the tunes spinning all day. Ashley Krug played the bagpipes during our memorable Luminaria Ceremony. Thank you to all these entertainers for volunteering their time and talent. Also a special thanks to our volunteer photographers Amanda Dair, Rebecca Bernardo and Ethan Hartley for providing us with memories of our special event.

The Relay For Life of Northern Rhode Island is a special day to honor and celebrate those survivors who show their strength in their fight against cancer. Thank you to the survivors who come to help open the track and who show the communities how to persevere and thrive. The teams who participate and raise money for this cause are comprised of incredible individuals who are committed to fighting cancer and winning the battle against this disease. Thank you to these wonderful teams of cancer-fighting warriors.
