Program on R.I.'s Battery G in the Civil War to be held at library

CUMBERLAND - Cumberland Public Library will host a talk about the state's Battery G in the Civil War on Monday, Nov. 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Rhode Island's Battery G fought at every major battle in the Civil War. The soldiers used a new technology, the rifled cannon, to bring positive results on the battlefield. Author Robert Grandchamp will share the results of his years of research into these men, including seven soldiers who were awarded the Medal of Honor.

"The Boys of Adams' Battery G: The Civil War Through the Eyes of a Union Light Artillery Unit" is Grandchamp's newest book. He has written numerous articles and books about Rhode Island, the Civil War and the American Revolution. He resides in Warwick.

Copies of his book will be available for sale with 10 percent of the proceeds to benefit the library.

Registration is requested but not required. Call 333-2552.
