LINCOLN - Hearthside, Lincoln's historic stone mansion, will be open for tours on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The home is on the National Register of Historic Places and is considered to be one of Rhode Island's finest examples of Federal style architecture. Volunteer docents in period costume will lead guests through the 10-room house, while telling of its storied past along one of the country's oldest roadways, Great Road.
Next door to Hearthside, the Hannaway Blacksmith Shop offers an opportunity to watch blacksmiths at work, forging hot steel into various implements. It is open on Saturday morning, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The town of Lincoln will sponsor a concert, with Pendradon, at 6 p.m., in Chase Farm Park. No dogs or alcoholic beverages are allowed in the park.
The tour at Hearthside, the blacksmith demonstrations, and the concert are all free of charge.
Hearthside and Chase Farm Park are located on Route 123, at 677 Great Road. For more information about Hearthside, call 726-0597 or visit hearthsidehouse.org.
