Diamond Hill Road sidewalks, resurfacing gets started

WOONSOCKET - An overhaul of Diamond Hill Road, 2.2 miles from Bound Road to Social Street, has begun under a $3.7 million contract awarded to low bidder D'Ambra Construction Co. of Warwick.

This is one of several northern Rhode Island resurfacing and sidewalk repair jobs made possible with federal stimulus funds.

The original estimate on the job was $4.4 million, but like most road jobs this year, the bid was significantly less. Fleet Construction of Cumberland missed by just $6,000.

This project is starting with new sidewalks, curbing and drainage repairs, then will continue next year with a resurfacing of the roadway, according to Charles St. Martin, spokesman for the Department of Transportation.

It's scheduled for completion in the fall of 2010.
