Collaboration leads to multi-town grant for preservation of heritage landscapes
NORTH SMITHFIELD - Working in collaboration, the towns of North Smithfield, Smithfield, Burrillville, Lincoln and Glocester have received a $17,000 grant from the Rhode Island Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission to identify and catalog significant heritage landscapes, which will lead to the development of strategies for their protection. The project will rely on public participation, and local citizens are encouraged to get involved.
The John M. Chafee Blackstone Valley National Heritage Corridor Commission will contribute another $15,000 toward the work, set to begin in October. Last year, a similar inventory was completed in the Massachusetts part of the Blackstone Valley.
The town of North Smithfield will manage the project.
