Anna Kokolski - Woonsocket
Mrs. Anna (Kazan) Kokolski, age 99, of 60 Mendon Road, Woonsocket at the Ballou Home, formerly of Chimney Hill Apartments in Cumberland and Woonsocket, died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, with her loving family present.She was the loving wife of the late John Kokolski. Born Dec. 26, 1910, in Lincoln, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Eudokia (Kopecka) Kazan of Cumberland. She moved to Woonsocket in 1936 when she married, and lived in Woonsocket for 45 years, moving to Cumberland in 1981 and living there for 25 years before moving to the Ballou Home in 2006.
She worked in the local mills before her marriage and later worked at A.T. Cross in the desk set department for 11 years, retiring in 1979. She was a member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Woonsocket where she was a member of the Ladies' Sodality, the Sisterhood of St. Mary and the Ukrainian National Association. For many years she was a member of the weekly kitchen workers who prepared Ukrainian food for special sales and events. She also had been a member of the Chimney Hill Association, St. Aiden's Senior Citizens and the Cumberland Seniors’ Center.
She leaves two daughters, Cornelia M. Hurd and her husband Alan L. Hurd of North Smithfield and Joan F. Marek and her husband Thomas C. Marek of Burrillville; four grandchildren, John Hurd of Middleton, Wisc., Susan Hurd of North Smithfield, Anne Marek of Harrisburg, Pa., and Emily Marek of North Providence; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and David Hurd. She was the sister of Mary Picchioni and the late Stephen Kazan.
Her funeral was held Monday from the Kubaska Funeral Home 33 Harris Ave., Woonsocket with a Funeral Mass in St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Burial will be in St. Andrew's National Ukrainian Cemetery in South Bound Brook, N.J., Tuesday, Jan. 26.
