John A. DeAngelis - Smithfield

John A. DeAngelis, 90, of Roger Williams Drive, Greenville, passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010.

He was the husband of the late Mary Ruth DeAngelis with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Providence, he was the second eldest of Peter and Mary (Turchetta) DeAngelis. He was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Pacific theater with the 43rd Infantry Division. He was a well-known homebuilder in both Johnston and Smithfield, retiring at the age of 60 to devote the remainder of his life to his family, especially his grandsons. He enjoyed golf, tennis and winters in Florida, and was a life-long fan of the Red Sox.

He leaves his son, Joseph and his wife Donna Neville DeAngelis of Cranston and Jamestown; his grandsons, Matthew P. DeAngelis of Greenville and Joseph R. and his wife Tammy Reina DeAngelis of Boston, Mass.; and his daughter-in-law Denise DeMarco of Cranston. He also leaves his sisters, Anne Zanni and Rose Lillian Fusco and a brother, Albert DeAngelis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial with military honors is in Highland Park, Johnston.
