Vadenais: We need to make ourselves business friendly
WOONSOCKET - In her press release, Suzanne Vadenais said that the campaign of 2009 reminds her of her last first term in office 20 years ago. "Time passes but financial problems repeat themselves," she said.
"We are facing not only a local deficit but a state and federal deficit which will take years to resolve," Vadenais said. "As your council woman, I promise to work with integrity and honesty and a realistic approach to solve our problems."
She continued, "We need more accountability, scrutiny of expenses and transparent government. I will work with the School Committee for a fair funding formula which is long overdue. We also need to address the unfunded mandates. The taxpayers can no longer be expected to pay for the mandates if the state refuses to fund the programs."
"We as a council need to look at the tax base for businesses, which is now the highest in the state. No one will want to establish a business if this continues. We need to make ourselves business friendly," Vadenais said.
Vendenais said that she will be the watch dog for the taxpayers and work closely with the future mayor and next elected council to make the city a better place for the people. "The next two years will be a tremendous challenge to all of us and I ask for your support to be on the team to work for you, the people of Woonsocket," she said.
She concluded, "As I have done in the past, this year I dedicate my campaign to all the men and women who I have served with in the past 20 years, for your knowledge and dedication to this city. To the people of Woonsocket, thank you for your support in the past and your support in the future."
