AT MOUNT - Six-foot-tall rabbit makes a joyful appearance at Mount

The second quarter has officially begun at Mount St. Charles Academy.

Spirit Week was a huge success during the first quarter, and the walkathon had plenty of participants. The freshmen took first place, with the sophomores and juniors tied for second.

This past weekend, some members of the Mount faculty performed in the faculty play, "Harvey." The play was sold out for each of its showings. The play starred Mr. Richer, the school's president, as a man with a 6¬½-foot-tall invisible rabbit named Harvey. Other teachers in the play were Mrs. Richer, Mr. Roderick, Mr. Shea, Mrs. Barrett, and many more.

On Sunday, Nov. 1, Mount will hold its annual Open House for prospective students. Members of the National Honors Society and Junior National Honors Society will lead the families around the school for a tour and give them information on classes, activities and sports. Other students will be in various classrooms, working on art projects, performing a science lab, or practicing for the school play. This is to show the new families what Mount has to offer, instead of just telling them.

The Science Fair begins on Monday with judging done by some of Mount's teachers in the science department. On Tuesday, the Science Fair projects are on display in Chapel Hall throughout the day, and then on Wednesday, parents will be allowed to view the projects. Wednesday is also the day awards are given out to the winning students.

Friday the 6th to Saturday the 7th is when some of the sophomores will travel to the CYO Center in Woonsocket for the 10th-grade retreat. Every year, students are given the chance to spend 24 hours with each other and learn more about each other and their faiths.

Veterans Day is Nov. 11, and although there is no school, the Mount St. Charles drama department will be busy all day in preparation of their show that night and the following night.

This year, the show is "Fiddler on the Roof." The students auditioned last year, and have been rehearsing since the end of the summer. Tickets are on sale in the main office or at the Stadium Theater, 762-4545. The shows are Wednesday and Thursday nights, both at 7.

There may not be many activities going on within the next few weeks, but the students at Mount are still busy. The seniors are sending in their early action/decision applications, and every other student is working hard to make their second-quarter grades better than the 1st.
