AT LHS - Spirit Week at Lincoln High School
The next two weeks at Lincoln High School are a couple of the most exciting of the year. Spirit Week is nearly upon us, and with only a slim number of days left to practice for skit, some students may find that they're just about living at the school. As with every year, the hours and hours of hard work dedicated to preparing for Spirit Week will soon pay off.
This past Monday, LHS kicked off its annual Coin Clash, where all four classes take their school spirit to the banker. Students use nickels, dimes and quarters to subtract coin totals from other classes in order to get ahead in the Clash. Money from the Coin Clash will go toward the March of Dimes on Oct. 31. Katie Coutu, a junior, is taking over the March of Dimes for her exhibition. The event will be held noon to 5 p.m. at the Lincoln High School track.
Spirit Week begins on Monday, Nov. 2, with the Hot Dog Roast at 5 p.m. at the high school. The night is a fund-raiser for the junior class and each grade will have its shirts for sale as well as tickets for the rest of Spirit Week's events.
Tuesday will be a frenzied night for students involved with skit; it is the last night of practice before they are presented on Wednesday. Tuesday also marks the end of the first quarter and a SIT meeting will be held in the LHS library at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 4, is skit night and dodgeball, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. There will also be a PACT meeting and an Athletic Council Meeting at 7 p.m. in the high school library.
Students return to the high school gym on Thursday night for Battle of the Classes, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, Nov. 6, is the first LHS Homecoming football game under the new field lights. The Lions will play against Cumberland High School in the memorable game. The LHS band and cheerleaders will also be in attendance.
Next Friday is also the due date for early submissions on senior portfolios for those who want to get ahead.
Saturday, Nov. 7, wraps up Spirit Week with an ice hockey versus field hockey game from noon to 4 p.m. Proceeds from the game will be put toward the Derek Parenteau Scholarship Fund. Later that day, the Homecoming Dance will be held 7:30-10:30 p.m. in the high school gym.
On Monday, Nov. 9, a School Committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the LMS auditorium, and on Nov. 10, first-quarter report cards will be distributed. Students need not forget that there will be no school the following day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, in order to observe Veterans Day.
Many, many hours of hard work has led up to the coming week. For some, this will be the first Spirit Week experience, for others, it will be the last. It is a memorable time in every Lincoln High School student's year and should be relished and savored for all it is worth. Until next time...
