NPHS will present 'A Christmas Carol'
"God bless us all, everyone!" This inspiring line from Charles Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol," is delivered by Tiny Tim to audiences all over the world during every Christmas season.
Now, this beloved tale of redemption, goodwill, and cheer is being performed by the North Providence High School Drama Department. Previously, a musical version had been selected; however, an alternate version has now been selected because it is, according to co-director Lisa Pasonelli, a "better fit" for the program.
Nevertheless, the show is sure to warm the hearts of audience members while providing quality entertainment, a standard that North Providence High School Drama is renowned for. Last year, members of drama performed a cabaret called "Young Dreams on Broadway" and stunned hundreds of audience members with their talent. This year, the bar has been set high, and "A Christmas Carol" is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. This production will deliver all of the classic components - the three ghosts, a cranky old miser whose eyes are opened to the joys of humanity, and the beloved Cratchit family - while also incorporating the unique talent and ideas of the students and of directors Lisa Pasonelli and Melissa Thomas.
Pasonelli explained, "As with other productions, we are making this classic our own and we are adding things to the script to add even more music, humor, and revelry."
At the high school, students are engaged in every aspect of the theatrical experience. There is a place for everyone in this group, no matter their experience or expertise.
Pasonelli said, "We try, with each and every performance, to showcase the many talents found here at the high school. In this production, students will shine as actors, set designers, singers, storytellers, technical assistants, and musicians."
As is evident, there is a large talent pool at the school.
The mission of the Drama Department is, of course, to cultivate students' talents in the performing arts. It is important, too, however, to touch and entertain audience members.
Pasonelli said, "We hope we can brighten the holiday season for everyone who comes to see it."
Performances are set for the high school auditorium on Dec. 3, 4, and 5. For tickets, call 233-1150, ext. 3306.
