AT NSHS - Juniors off to Salem, then receiving class rings

It's hard to believe that the first quarter of school ends tomorrow over at North Smithfield High School. It seems like we just came back from summer vacation a couple weeks ago.

The 2009-2010 school year began with huge administrative and schedule differences than years prior, but we all have definitely adjusted to them and gotten into the swing of things faster than many had thought.

Last week, the junior class took an exciting trip to Salem, Mass. After reading "The Crucible" in English class, it was a great experience for everyone to learn even more about the history of Salem. While there, they watched "Cry Innocent" and toured the House of Seven Gables, helping them understand even more about Salem's history.

The day after the trip to Salem, the Junior Class Ring Breakfast took place in the cafeteria as students came down to get their class rings and had breakfast with all their fellow classmates as they excitedly compared¬ each others¬ selections. The students have been waiting to get their rings since they were ordered last spring, and it seemed everyone agreed it was well worth the wait. Class rings are the perfect way to express your pride in your school and mark one of life's biggest moments. The class rings are a great way to remember your high school years down the road and have been personalized to showcase everyone's unique qualities.¬

Another way to remember one's high school experience would be to purchase the 2009-2010 yearbook. The yearbook staff has been working hard to create the perfect edition for everyone to look back on in the years to come and remember the great experiences they had in high school. One interesting thing about the upcoming edition is that if you have a special photo of yourself and of your friends, you can easily upload it to a Web site to request that it be included in the yearbook. Sometimes in yearbooks, the most flattering picture doesn't make the cut, so this is a great way for us to have a say in what goes into the book. Currently, the yearbook staff is collecting parent ads and order forms for this year's book. Anyone interested in purchasing a copy should contact Mrs. Lisa Cardin.

The award-winning Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Concert Choir and Concert Band¬ was expected to hold their annual fall concert last night. Coming up in December, they will be performing their annual Holiday Concert, which is always filled with lively songs of the season.

The first quarter here at the high school has proven to be very exciting and interesting. With the second quarter starting tomorrow, we'll be looking forward to parent teacher conferences, winter sports and quality time with our friends.
