AT CHS - Rest up and get flu shots, CHS students, to stay healthy
The first quarter ends tomorrow, bringing a fresh start to the students at Cumberland High School. Individuals have the opportunity to set new goals, improve grades, and surmount future challenges. The extra hour gained this week is another positive aspect because students have a little more time to relax and accomplish work. Many student athletes have even more time because most fall sports have already terminated or will do so soon. The winter sports do not start up until the end of November.
Not only is setting aside time to rest crucial for the athletes, but it is vital for all students and teachers as well. People are susceptible to the swine flu and other various sicknesses so it is important that everyone does his or her best to remain healthy.
Over the past few weeks, an abundance of students were unfortunately absent due to poor health conditions. In order to help prevent sickness, individuals should receive their regular flu shot if they have not done so already. In addition to the seasonal flu shot, parents may want to consider whether or not they want their child to receive the swine flu vaccination at school.
Schools, including Cumberland High, will be administering the swine flu shot several times throughout the month of November and early December. If parents decide that they want their child to receive the free vaccination from the school clinic, their child must return a signed consent form back to the school. To find out more information on the locations, dates, and times of the clinic, parents should call the high school soon because public clinics and physicians' offices will not possess the vaccination until late December or January. Calling a doctor to find out about health factors may also be beneficial.
In spite of all the sickness, life at school still carries on. Students who signed up to take the SAT at Cumberland High School on Saturday, Nov. 7, should be thoroughly preparing. For some tips, practice questions, or testing information, parents and students can log on to the College Board Web site.
The Ring Ceremony, a special event for the students who ordered a class ring, is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 19. As a reminder to all, there will be no school on Wednesday, Nov. 11, because it is Veterans Day.
There are numerous activities occurring in Cumberland, so everyone needs to remain well rested and practice favorable health habits if they wish to avoid germs and illnesses.
