SHS evaluation begins Nov. 1
SMITHFIELD - Fifteen educators encompassing the surrounding New England states will make an on-site evaluation of Smithfield High School on Sunday-Wednesday, Nov. 1-4, marking the decennial visit of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges to assist the faculty in its pursuit of quality education for its students.
Principal Daniel Kelley announced that Mr. Kyle Alves, assistant principal of Somerset High School in Massachusetts, would chair the visiting committee and that he has extensive experience in the association's evaluation process. Alves added that, "Our purpose in visiting Smithfield High School is not to criticize it but to assist with and stimulate a continuing drive for improvement in the school."
The purpose of this evaluation visit is to review and determine from an outside professional viewpoint the extent to which the school is meeting the Standards for Accreditation. Furthermore, Kelley stated that, "As part of the evaluation, the visiting team will meet with all school constituents, review the school's comprehensive self-study whereby the faculty identified the school's strengths and areas in which changes would be beneficial, visit a number of classes, and examine examples of student work submitted by the school faculty."
