Evacuation drill planned at Woonsocket High School on Friday

WOONSOCKET - The principal of Woonsocket High School, Lourenco Garcia, has announced that an evacuation drill has been planned for Friday, Nov. 6 at 1:10 p.m. The purpose of the drill is to test the schools' preparedness and response capacities to a potential threat or situation that might put the lives and well being of students and faculty at risk.

The students, faculty and staff will be evacuated to the field behind St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Road. Students accompanied by teachers and staff members will walk along Cass Avenue to Mendon Road. The Woonsocket Police Department will block traffic on Cass Avenue and at Mendon Road from 1:10 to 2 p.m. Faculty and staff will assist students at the Woonsocket Area Career and Technical Center in walking along Alysworth Avenue to Mendon Road. An emergency rescue vehicle will be available at the entrance to Nursery Avenue in front of the high school. Attendance of students will be taken at the field.

Parents are urged not to pick up children at St. Joseph Church because of the expected traffic congestion. Parents are to pick up children near the high school where they usually wait for them. The students should be returning to the high school at approximately 2 p.m.
