Mancini Center to host Veterans Day celebration

NORTH PROVIDENCE - The Salvatore Mancini Resource and Activity Center, 2 Atlantic Blvd., announces the following programs:

Blood pressure readings will be performed in the Fitness Center by Hopkins Manor on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 10-11:30 a.m.

SMRAC will host a bingo extravaganza on Saturday, Nov. 7, 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. Transportation will be available.

A representative from United Healthcare will be at the center on Monday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m., to discuss Medicare Advantage Plans for 2010.

Francine will be at the center with her collection of sweatshirts on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The collection this month in honor of Veterans Day will include U.S. Air Force, Marines, Army, Navy and P.O.W. sweatshirts and also a fall and holiday collection. Special orders are available. All sweatshirts sell for $12 each. The center receives a profit for every shirt sold. ¬ 

A Veterans Day celebration will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 10, with an Honor Guard formation at 10:30 a.m. and luncheon at noon. The Northern Rhode Island Korean War Veterans will present a color guard formation. Patriotic entertainment will be provided by Bobby Bourassa. Make luncheon reservations with Terri.

Cheryl Sadler will present a free discussion group, Coping with Change and Loss, on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 10-11 a.m.

Irene Scrima returns this month to teach a craft class on Thursday, Nov. 12, 9:30 a.m.-noon. She will teach participants how to make a selection of Christmas crafts using needlepoint. Register with the receptionist for this class. Space is limited to eight people. Participants should bring scissors. The cost is $2 per person.

The Mancini Breakfast Club will meet on Thursday, Nov. 12, 10-11 a.m., at Mazie's Restaurant. New participants are always welcome. There will be no meeting on Nov. 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

The URI Pharmacy Outreach Program will host a "Hot Topics" discussion group on Thursday, Nov. 12, 10:30-11:30 a.m. Topics to be discussed include: Vitamin D - What are the current recommendations for daily use and why it is important for good health. Acetaminophen - This is in so many over-the-counter products and combined with prescription pain killers that it is often called "the hidden medicine." Learn its hiding places and how to avoid taking too much daily. H1N1: Swine Flu - What is the latest on the availability of the vaccine and why it is important to get it.

Because of the Nov. 11 holiday, the In-Sight Support Group will meet this month on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 10:30 a.m.-noon. This is a support group for persons who are visually impaired.
