Leadership R.I. offers women's political workshops

PROVIDENCE - Leadership Rhode Island is offering its new Women's Leadership Series: The Political Process, which focuses on women in politics, with networking receptions, roundtable discussions and featured speakers at each session.

The series takes place Thursdays, May 15, 22 and 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Leadership Rhode Island, 4 Richmond Square. The purpose of the program is to encourage women to become involved politically, either through running for office, working on a campaign, or raising their own understanding of the political process.

Topics are:

May 15: "What Women Need to Know About Running for Office," by Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts and state Rep. Carol Mumford.

May 22: "Campaign Laws, Ethics and Potential Pitfalls," by Katherine D'Arezzo, senior staff attorney with the Rhode Island Ethics Commission, and Richard Thornton, supervision accountant at the Rhode Island Board of Elections.

May 29: "Political Campaigns and the Media." The two speakers are Jennifer Lawless, assistant professor at Brown University, and Lisa Pelosi, director of communications and media relations at Johnson & Wales University and a political analyst.
