Robert J. Grange Jr. - Smithfield

Robert J. Grange Jr., 72, of Valley View Drive, Greenville, died Saturday, Sept. 5, at The Miriam Hospital in Providence.

He was the beloved husband of Frances R. (Hartman) Grange. Born in Boston, Mass., a son of Robert J. Grange Sr. of Willington, Conn., and the late Doris S. (Jefferds) Grange, he had lived in Greenville his whole life. He was a Navy veteran. He had been an office manager for Aetna Bridge for 34 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Smithfield Elks Lodge, 2359 BPOE, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, and was a member and served on the social board of Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and loved skiing and scuba diving.

Besides his wife and father he leaves his children, Debbie Maaz of Warwick, Robert J. Grange III of Little River, S.C., Scott A. Grange and Susan L. Grange, both of Smithfield, and Jodi Gilligan of Killingly, Conn.; his stepchildren, Kristen M. Newell of Burrillville, Kimberly A. Sacchetti of North Kingstown and Anthony E. Ferri III of Cranston; three siblings, Bradford Grange of Grafton, N.H., Stephen Grange of Marlborough, Conn., and Suzanne Delano-Manning of Orange, N.H.; and 17 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. He was the son-in-law of Veronica (Cotter) Hartman of Warwick and lifelong friend of Ned Cooper of Smithfield.

His funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Our Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church, 54 Cedar Swamp Road, Smithfield, RI 02917. Visitation is Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. in the *Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Park, Johnston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Redeemer Evangelical Church or Meals on Wheels, 70 Bath Street, Providence, RI 02908.
