Close competition in Lincoln Little League Minors

LINCOLN - The pennant race is on in the Lincoln Little League's Minor AAA Division, with several teams contending for the top spot.

In action last week, the Rockies pulled out a 13-1 win over the Nationals thanks to a combined pitching effort by Devin Kiley, Jake Burlingame, Ethan Dasilva and Connor Sheehan, who allowed one run over six innings.

Kiley was also a monster at the plate, blasting four hits in as many tries, including a triple and two doubles. Sheehan and Dasilva were also huge on offense, both knocking out three hits and Cameron Hill scored twice.

The Blackstone Valley Federal Credit Union Mets won two games last week against tough competition. The Mets beat the Angels in a tight 8-5 contest, scoring in each of the first five innings. Tommy Pesta paced the offense going three for three with two singles and a double. He also scored in all three of his trips to the plate.

Hunter Moore maintained his hot streak, going two for three and leading the Mets with three RBI.

The Mets finished the week with an 8-4 victory over the Red Sox, handing the Sox their first loss of the season. The defensive highlight of the game was Alex Duarte's shoestring catch of a sinking line drive at third base. Leading the offense were Warren Fredrikson with three hits, two runs, and two RBI, Hunter Moore with two hits and three RBI, and while Daren Fredrikson and Anthony Decubellis with two hits each.

In other games, the Phillies beat the Angels, 8-5; White Sox downed the Marlins, 8-6; Astros got by the Giants, 8-4; Astros beat the Phillies, 9-7; Red Sox downed the Giants, 8-6; Phillies beat the Rockies, 7-5; and the Astros bested the Angels, 5-1.

The Kids Klub Red Sox are in first place at 6-1, followed by the Clark Mini Fasteners Marlins, 5-1-1; Tougas Chiropractic Astros, 4-3; Gem Paving Inc. Phillies, 4-4; George S. Smith & Sons Nationals, 3-4; Wells Fargo Home Mortgage Giants, 3-5; Crown Collision Centers Rockies, 3-5; D & H Therapy Associates White Sox, 2-7; and the Dion Signs Angels, 1-5.
