Thanks to all farmers - and the Goodwins - for food help

As the gardening season winds down, we would like to thank all the members of the North Smithfield and Burrillville community who contributed to our fresh vegetable food drive this summer. With your generosity, our families collected more than 1,000 pounds of home-grown garden vegetables and delivered them to the Because He Lives soup kitchen in Woonsocket. Vegetables included corn - (lots of corn!), tomatoes, zucchini, beans, turnips, cucumber and potatoes, to name a few. These home-grown, fresh-picked vegetables were cooked by the talented volunteers at the soup kitchen and became delicious and nutritious meals to feed many hungry neighbors in Woonsocket each week.

We especially need to thank Robert Goodwin, of Goodwin Brothers Farm Stand in North Smithfield, for his incredibly generous contributions of produce from his farm each week. There were many delicious meals prepared and served at Because He Lives with the vegetables grown and donated by Mr. Goodwin. We hope everyone in the community will recognize and appreciate Goodwin Brothers Farm Stand for both their delicious farm fresh vegetables and for their generous spirit.

To everyone who donated a single tomato, a pound of beans or bushel of corn this growing season, we thank you for contributing some of your garden harvest to our fresh produce drive. Together we learned how a simple act can be of great help to others.
