On behalf of the physical education department at Cumberland High School and the senior canoeists, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those who make this year's canoe trip on the Blackstone River such a success.
Many thanks to the following fire departments: Cumberland Hill, Manville, Albion, Quinnville, Lonsdale and Valley Falls, for providing safety at all the portages. Also, to John Marsland of the Friends of the Blackstone for loaning us all the canoes used on the trips, and to Frank Matta for leading the way and providing safety during the entire trip.
The canoe trip this year was very exciting as the two inches of rain the day before provided a great ride for everyone.
The cookout at the end of the trip was outstanding. We have many local businesses to thank for their donations and sponsorship. Thank you to Shaw's Meats of Woonsocket and Michael's Meats, Seabra and Dave's Marketplace, all of Cumberland.
Cumberland High School's own food service, Sodexho, was extremely helpful in providing the grill and anything else that was needed, while Pepsi-Cola provided all the drinks.
The senior canoe trip has turned into a community affair and the students at Cumberland High School are very grateful for all the support they have received.
Last, but certainly not least, a very special thank you to an understanding and supportive high school administration.
