Manfredi is a strong advocate for those in need

Quite often I pick up The Breeze to read about the North Providence news, especially since the chairman of our board is North Providence Councilman Frank A. Manfredi. As director of the Hartford Park Community Corporation, Frank and I have worked together in community affairs for almost 30 years. Frank's position as chairman is pro-bono and without any monetary value to him.

In fact, he donates what he can in successfully assisting those in need. Let me tell you, his arm of goodwill extends beyond the borders of North Providence and throughout the streets of Providence and neighboring communities.

Some of his contributions include assisting in job placement, clothing donations, food for seniors and disabled, housing and other valuable community services. He has been a true advocate for our clients and those in need. Regarding children, he supported our preschool for at-risk children and volunteered his time and efforts to provide toys for children, saving that expense for many needy families.

Let us not forget the hundreds of food baskets that were given to families over the years as a result of Frank's tireless work to find sponsors in support of our needy families.

Regarding the corporation, he has been instrumental in keeping us afloat through the years. He was our primary lobbyist in securing funds each year to ensure we survive. Survive we have as we continue to service our population.

Frank is a giver, not a receiver, and draws pleasure in accomplishing tasks that really help people and their households. The recent letters to the editor are more than likely political in nature as they do not fairly represent Frank.

North Providence should be lucky to have a councilman such as Frank, as we are to have him as our chairperson. Honesty, diligence, and caring are values and qualities that are essential in providing good government as well as helping those in need.
