LaRoche, Cam reach finals in Field of Dreams softball

WOONSOCKET - There were some anxious moments, but when the final scores were calculated, the two best regular season teams in the Field of Dreams Senior Softball league, Cam HVAC and LaRoche Dental, found themselves in the playoff finals.

The teams are scheduled to play a best-of-three series on Friday, Oct. 30, at Baldelli Field to determine this year's playoff champion.

LaRoche, which had split its first two games in the semi-finals against upstart Village Haven, pulled out an 11-10 win in the deciding game. Village pushed Cam despite the fact that it was the last place team during the regular season.

Village started fast, plating five runs in the first inning with key hits provided by Pete Demasi, Charlie Desaulniers, Bill Achilles, Roger Pincince and Norm Boland.

Cam answered with a pair of runs in the second on base knocks by Phil Anez, Roger Roy and Ted Weller, and added five big runs in the second inning, with Richard Goodier, George Dumas, Doc Coletta, Moe Coulombe and Bob Egan doing the damage.

Village added a pair in the fifth, but Cam responded with three.

In their last at bat, Village loaded the bases and scored once with two out, but could not push across the tying run and lost, 12-11.

LaRoche had already taken the opening game of their best of three series against Bousquet Oil, and the Oilmen came out blazing, taking a 12-6 win in the second game of the series. Larry Dolan and Rene Bousquet paced the winners.

In the third and deciding contest, LaRoche pulled out a 9-7 decision to advance to the finals against Cam.

Leading the winners were Jim Penta, Jim Feeley and Fred Lafazia.
