Adamonis family headlines CHS Hall of Fame induction class
CUMBERLAND - Cumberland's first family of golf, the Adamonis family, will headline the class being installed at the 12th annual Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame banquet.
Being inducted are Brad Adamonis, a successful member of the Professional Golf Association tour, and his father, the late Dave Adamonis, also a premiere golfer, who died recently.
Also being installed are Mike Brissette, who was an outstanding athlete at CHS, leading the state in home runs two years in a row. He went on to play Minor League baseball in the Boston Red Sox organization.
Dale O'Dell, a standout hockey and baseball player while in high school, is also being inducted. O'Dell continued his work in baseball after graduating from college and becoming a physical education teacher. He was a highly successful coach at both Bryant College and Cumberland High School, assists coaching the Lincoln Middle School baseball team, and was the coach of the Lincoln Little League all-star team that won the Rhode Island state championship this season and advanced to the finals of the New England tournament before being eliminated.
Lori Palagi, who helped lead the Lady Clippers to the 1980 basketball state championship, is also part of the installation class. Her team was recently inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
Robert Allen, who was an All American track athlete at Cumberland High School as well as a dominating football player, is also a member of this year's induction class. He was honored with the "Gatorade Player of the Year Award." He later earned All-American status at the University of Rhode Island while competing on the track team in the hammer and weight throws.
One of the best basketball players in Cumberland High School history, Jeff Jarry is also a member of this year's class. While at CHS, Jarry was a two-time All State performer and is one of the all-time leading scorers at the school.
Kurt Langborg, a swimmer who earned All-American honors as well as multiple all-state honors while a member of the Cumberland High School swim team, is also being inducted.
Also being honored will be the school's 1969 football team, which captured the Rhode Island Class B state championship.
The induction banquet will be held on Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m. at Wright's Farm Restaurant, Nasonville. Tickets are $30 and may be obtained by contacting Tom Kenwood at 658-0831 or e-mailing kenwoodt2@cox.net.
