Sentinels run to honors in Connecticut

The Smithfield High cross-country teams took their show on the road last week to run in the Wickham Invitational in Manchester, Conn.

Running in the Small School (Unseeded) race, the Sentinel boys finished second out of 38 teams with 138 points, eight behind Nonnewaug Regional of Conncticut.

Sentinel junior Brian Musard led the way, finishing fifth out of 265 runners in a time of 17:28 over the challenging course. Zack Chadwick (18th) and Chris Bennett (27th), Tom DeCristofaro (38th) and Kyle Gerlach (52nd) added SHS points.

Lady Sentinel Katie Meinertz ran 11th in 20:43, Stephanie Ward-Smith was 56th, Rachel Valerio (97th) and Brenna Guay (154th) for the locals.

The top Rhode Island finisher was Alexandra Reardon, a Smithfield resident running for the Lincoln School, who placed ninth in 20:42.

Smithfield's Ryan Pagliaro ran 6th out of 200-plus runners in the Freshman Boys event and Emily Meinertz and Sarah Musard both earned top 10 finishes in the girls race.
