Sentinel girls earned their way to field hockey's "final four"
Smithfield gained a berth in the Division II field hockey playoffs opposite top-seed Wheeler School last week by defeating host Burrillville in the quarter-finals, 2-1.
The Sentinels had one of their best-ever regular seasons, going 8-7-1.
Marissa Gagnon and Emily Gonsalves scored for SHS in the first half at BHS and Alyssa Bazinet assisted on Gonsalves' tally. Megan Hurst brought the Broncos within a goal in the second half. SHS goaltender Tara Vizcaino had 17 saves in the contest and kept her team in it. They took 11 shots at the Burrillville cage.
Smithfield was later eliminated by Wheeler School.
