Alice M. Moore - Cumberland
Alice M. (Lare) Moore, 80, of Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland, died Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Mount St. Rita’s Health Centre in Cumberland.She was the beloved wife of Robert R. Moore. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Fred and Jennie (Vanalstyne) Lare, she had lived in Cumberland for the past 41 years. Mrs. Moore received her master’s degree in teaching from Syracuse University and her master’s degree in social work from Boston College. She taught history in high school in Saugerties, N.Y., and later worked as a substitute teacher in East Braintree, Mass. Before retiring in 1994, she worked for 25 years as a social worker in Child Welfare and Elderly Affairs for the State of Rhode Island. She was a member of Cumberland Community Methodist Church, Cumberland. Besides her husband she leaves three daughters, Suzanne Martin of Pacific Palisades, Calif., Joanne Heintzelman of New Carrollton, Md., and Marianne Gilmore of Stowe, Mass.; two sons, Stephen Moore of Redlands, Calif., and Ross Moore of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a sister, Phyllis Martin of Longmont, Colo.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Private burial will be in West Ghent Rural Cemetery, Ghent, N.Y. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. Please omit flowers.
