Daniel A. Richardson - Uxbridge

Daniel A. Richardson, 68, of South Street, Uxbridge, Mass., died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at his home.

He was the husband of M. Diane (Browne) Richardson. Mr. and Mrs. Richardson observed their 47th wedding anniversary Nov. 11, 2009. Mr. Richardson and his son Alan have owned and operated the Richardson Sawmill in Harrisville for more than 30 years. Daniel and his family operated the Brown-Richardson Farm that had been in the family for almost 300 years. The sawmill developed after the dairy farming subsided. Mr. Richardson worked for the L.E. Whipple Pump Co. in Woonsocket for more than 10 years. Mr. Richardson was born in Woonsocket Oct. 2, 1941, the son of the late Daniel and Marion V. (Hall) Richardson, and had been a lifelong resident of Uxbridge. He attended Uxbridge schools, including the Ironstone School and the Wheelocksville School.

Mr. Richardson enjoyed fishing at the family camp in Franklin County, Maine. He was past president and member of the South Uxbridge Community Association at the Ironstone School and a member of the Worcester County Farm Bureau and Forestry Association. Daniel offered his property to the Hoot Owls of Rhode Island who ran motorcycle scrambles on his property. The Boy Scout councils of Massachusetts and Rhode Island enjoyed many campouts on his property.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Welcome A. Richardson of Oxford, Mass., and Alan M. Richardson of Uxbridge; three daughters, Wendy A. Timmons of Northbridge, Mass., Heidi A. Richardson of Whitinsville, Mass., and Heather A. Ulicki of Palm Coast, Fla.; two brothers, Roger Richardson of Harrisville and Terry Richardson of Largo, Fla.; two sisters, Jean Baker of Harrisville and Irene Richardson of Putnam, Conn.; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews. His brother, Bernard Richardson, predeceased him.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at 10 a.m. the BUMA FUNERAL HOME, 101 North Main St. (Route 122), Uxbridge, MA 01569. Interment will follow in the Ballou-Buffum Cemetery # 37, Inman Road, Burriville. Visiting hours will be Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home.
